In the Chemical Reaction unit, Students will learn the following information: in some chemical reactions, atoms separate from their original substance and form new ones, while other times atoms stay bound and do not separate. They will learn what dissolving is and they will experience the surprise of colors appearing out of darkness. Students will love learning about acids and bases – how to tell them apart, and how to make a gas appear.
Enrichment activities are offered at the end of each experiment. They will encourage students to experiment with different substances, and ones with different shapes and sizes to see if the results they get will change from their initial ones. Students will love the activity which teaches them how to make a volcano! They will also be encouraged to wait an hour after one of the experiments so they can see another chemical reaction begin to occur. Students will be amazed at the visual evidence left behind one activity which proves some molecules stay joined together throughout one of the chemical reactions.
