In the Air Power unit, the following information is taught: Compressed air has a lot of force and can move items in many directions. It can move heavy objects and even push water uphill. Students will learn how a cushion of air eliminates friction that would normally stop an object from moving, and they will also learn what makes a submarine sink and float.
Enrichment activities are offered at the end of each experiment. They will encourage students to try using a variety of objects and ones of different sizes to see if they will get similar or different results when they experiment. They will be amazed when they try reversing the “Science Steps” and the same type of reaction occurs. Students will really enjoy trying some of these experiments at home in the bath tub. Other activities encourage students to play with a variety of familiar toys that will teach and reinforce the power of air.
